Responsibilities
- Make and repair of a wide range of sheet-metal products and parts in relation to shop equipment, transit vehicles and various TTC structures and buildings including fabricating, designing, laying out patterns, measuring, cutting, shaping, bending, riveting, welding various types of metal such as galvanized iron, copper, stainless steel, aluminum, etc.
- Use hand tools, manual and power-operated metal working machines including CNC machinery
- Installing a variety of sheet-metal components or products such as complete exhaust systems for grinding machines, grinding dust containers, signs (illuminated, ornamental) and metal frames, metal piping, sand hoppers and containers, turnstiles, electrical boxes for fuses and switches, light reflector hoods, metal moulds for door skins, heating and ventilation systems
- Carry out repair work on buildings, structures (e.g. roofs, eaves troughs, canopies, awnings, aluminum siding)
- Grind, polish, buff, a variety of finished metal coverings (e.g. stainless steel, copper, brass)
- Operate a TTC vehicle to transport crew and equipment to job sites
- Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer
Qualifications
- Requires a valid Certificate of Qualification as a Sheet Metal Worker, License 308A
- You will be required to attain a valid Gas Technician 3 certificate as detailed in the Fuel Industry Certificates of Ontario Regulation 215/01 of the Technical Standards & Safety Act
- Requires a valid, non-probationary, Province of Ontario class “G” driver’s license
- Successful completion of the TTC’s in-house training programs for Operation of a TTC Vehicle, Subway/SRT Rulebook, Safety Orientation/Surface Maintenance, WHMIS, Confined Spaces and Motorized Lifting Devices as well as other courses deemed necessary by the Department
- You must be medically fit to use a respirator
- Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
- Must provide a set of tools as per the established tool list
